How it works

Who the book is for, for which occasion and how to set it up

Mum, Dad, Grandad or Gran as the hero. If you are looking for a present for your mother that will not disappear into a drawer after the wrapping comes off, make Mum the hero: with her glasses, her laugh, her place at the kitchen table. The same works for Dad, Grandad or an auntie. Gran can set off on an adventure with the grandchildren, because up to three heroes share the story.

Partner, best friend, colleague. People outside the family can be the hero too. The card in the first step is called “Family or a friend”, and for the role you write who the person is to you, for example “best friend” or “colleague”. For a leaving do at work or an anniversary for two, you say in your idea what the story should be about.

Occasions that suit such a book: Mother's Day, a big birthday, an anniversary, a goodbye on retirement. You write the occasion into your idea in the step “What should the story be about?”. If nothing comes to mind, you can have three ideas shown and pick one.

How to set the person up: You choose the card “Family or a friend”, enter the name and the role, and describe the person briefly: age, hair, glasses, favourite clothes, a quirk everybody knows. You can add a photo if you like, but you do not need one. The person is drawn lovingly as the hero.

Honest from the start: It remains a painted picture book with 14 double pages. The language and length of the story follow the age you set in the first step for the child who is read to, up to 12 years. We do not make novels or books with long chapters. If you would like to give a picture book with warmth and humour, you are in the right place.

Do I need a photo of the person?

No. Age, hair, glasses, favourite clothes and anything special are enough. You can add a photo if you like, so that the portrait looks more like the person.

Can I put Gran and the grandchildren in the same book?
