Where to mail the letter

Santa's address for the US Postal Service is Santa Claus, 123 Elf Rd., North Pole, 88888.1 The Postal Service's Operation Santa, now in its 114th year, takes letters from the continental US, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.1

Children should write their full name and return address on the letter, in clear handwriting.1 In Operation Santa, people adopt letters and answer them, and a letter has to be postmarked by December 5 to be eligible for adoption.1 Eligible is the right word: not every letter is adopted, so a reply is possible but not certain.

Writing the letter is a small ritual of its own: the list, the drawing in the corner, the question of whether the reindeer get a carrot too. Keep a copy. In a few years, it is one of the most touching things in the drawer.

A book as the answer. We do not send letters from Santa, and a book does not replace one. What Sagalino makes is a Christmas story in which your child is the hero: the letter sets off, reaches the North Pole, and something comes back. What you describe goes into the story, the wish list included, if you like.

You read the whole story for free before you decide. The eBook is ready about half an hour after you buy. The hardcover is printed in the US and takes up to 13 business days from your approval, so for Christmas, see our Christmas book page for the last day to approve.

Three story ideas

  • The child's letter to Santa goes on a journey of its own, and the child follows it all the way to the North Pole.
  • An elf reads the letter and has a question that only the child can answer.
  • Christmas Eve, when the child is still awake and hears something on the roof.
